Aluminum as a crucial material to be exploited in automotive industry
A radiator is a type of heat exchanger. It is designed to transfer heat from the hot coolant that flows through it to the air blown through it by the fan.The manufacturing technique of automobile radiator has gone through three stages which fall into with copper radiator, mechanical assembling aluminum radiator and tube or strip welding aluminum radiator.Meanwhile, the technique is developing towards longevity, lighter and environmental protection to cater for the marketing demand.
Over the past 20 years, aluminum has taken first place as the metal for radiators in new cars (56% - 44%). This kind of aluminum materials were proven to be the desirable material based on numbers of studies and experiments in Europe and North America. Aluminum achieves weight savings of parts up to 50% while maintaining safety and performance in a cost efficient way, competing efficiently with other light-weight materials. Also, aluminum is one third the density of copper/brass and can handle heat fairly well despite its many shortcomings. In its raw state (although not as radiator strip), aluminum is less expensive. However, some of drawbacks happening when corroded or damaged, for example, aluminum radiators are far more costly to repair than copper/brass radiators. Moreover, aluminum radiators are particularly prone to coolant-side, pin-hole corrosion. When this occurs, the radiator is irreparable.
Except the radiator for heat exchanger, for most automotive parts are also made of Aluminum(Al alloys) alloys.Basically, most of automotive parts such as non-heat-treatable alloys or 5000 series alloy (work-hardening AlMg(Mn) alloys), 6000 series alloys (heat-treatable AlMgSi alloys).Currently, the highly formable 5000 alloys are used mostly for inner panel application based on showing good combination of strength and formability. The 6000 series alloys that obtain their required strength through the heat treatment cycle, for sheets when the car body undergoes in the paint baking process. The 6000 series alloysare also the main alloy for extrusions, since they achieve high extrusion speed and surface quality, with optimized age hardening characteristics, when cooled from the extrusion process. In some cases also heat-treatable AlZnMg alloys (7000 series alloys) are used for special high strength applications, but in most cases the robust and easy handable (and weldable) 6000 alloys prevail.
Tianjin Baienwei New Material Technology Co.,Ltd core competence is to provide lightweight and customer designed silicon-aluminum(Si:17%~25%) alloy or aluminum auto parts products which help to enhance the economy efficiency and keep environmental safe. The auto parts have requisite combinations of low specific weight, high corrosion resistance and outstanding technological properties, such as cylinder liners/cylinder liner blank, inlet valves, pistons, brake dicsand so on.
